Chief Investment Officer
My background is a little strange for someone in our industry. I studied engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland before marrying my high school sweetheart, Nicole, and moving to Boston so that she could go to grad school. I landed my first job running the technology department at a small high school, where I learned that I don’t like running technology departments, but that I do have a knack for disciplining teenagers.
After a few years, I decided to pursue my long-time passion for investing, and earned a Master of Science in Finance degree at Boston College in 2009—a wonderful time to study the markets but an awful time to look for a job. I spent the next two years running my technology consulting firm and doing strategic work at another educational nonprofit before starting at John Hancock in their mutual fund division. Nicole and I managed to move back home to Michigan with our daughter just as she turned four years old, for the next step in my career doing hedge fund investing. In January 2017, I joined Exchange Capital Management to lead the investment team.
